I see fashion as a language of form, and photography as a language of movement. My work begins where the two meet.
Anna Barbera was born in Brescia, Italy, in 2002. From an early age, she developed a strong interest in the intersection between fashion and art, two fields that continue to shape her creative identity and photographic practice.
During high school, she specialized in fashion and Made in Italy production, gaining an early understanding of garments, materials, craftsmanship, and the visual language of fashion. At the same time, she began to explore photography more deeply, discovering it as a natural space where her interests in fashion, image-making, and artistic expression could converge.
In 2021, she moved to Milan to study Photography at IED – Istituto Europeo di Design. During her studies, she developed her technical and visual approach while beginning to collaborate with emerging artists, designers, and creatives within the fashion industry. These experiences allowed her to explore photography not only as a way of documenting fashion, but as a tool for constructing narratives, atmospheres, and identities. She graduated in July 2024.
After graduating, she moved to the United States to continue her photographic education at SCAD– Savannah College of Art and Design, where she expanded her perspective within an international creative environment and further developed her approach to fashion and editorial photography.
Following her experience at SCAD, Anna began teaching fashion at the high-school level, combining her professional practice with education and sharing her knowledge of fashion, design, and creative processes with younger generations. Teaching became another way to explore visual communication and the relationship between creativity, culture, and image-making.
Her work is rooted in the dialogue between fashion, art, light and movement with a particular interest in the atmosphere and emotion behind an image. She approaches each photograph as a space where styling, composition, and spontaneity can coexist, seeking to create images that feel both carefully constructed and instinctive.
Anna is currently based in Milan and works internationally, collaborating with photographers, artists, stylists, designers, and creative teams across Italy and abroad.
